About the goals

Armed violence and insecurity have a destructive impact on a country’s development, affecting economic growth, and often resulting in grievances that last for generations. Sexual violence, crime, exploitation and torture are also prevalent where there is conflict, or no rule of law, and countries must take measures to protect those who are most at risk.

Goal 16 primarily focusses on significantly reducing all form of violence and promoting the rule of law at national and international levels to ensure equal access to justice for all. It not only aims to find enduring solutions to conflict and insecurity but also aims to end abuse, exploitation, trafficking, corruption and bribery; develop effectiv, accountable and transparent institutions and ensure inclusive and representative decision making at all levels.

Why is it important and what is the current scenario?

India is one of the largest democracies of the world with principles of justice, liberty and equality enshrined in the Constitution of the country. There is a strong network of institutions at the national and State level that are transparent
